A former Wichita lawyer has pleaded guilty to a federal embezzlement charge, bringing an end to a years-long investigation.

Christopher O’Brien, 69, voluntarily surrendered his license to practice law in Kansas and has agreed to pay $728,000 in restitution to several families, including the Altis family.

O’Brien pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement from an estate, admitting that he embezzled more than $132,000 from the bankruptcy estate of Roger L. and Maria K. Altis while he was representing the couple.
