Bakersfield Man Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison for Receiving Child Pornography

A Kern County man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in a child pornography ring.

Christopher Patterson, 43, of Bakersfield, was sentenced Wednesday, no date given, to seven years in prison for receipt of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

According to court documents, between July 2018 and November 2018, Patterson used an SD card to knowingly receive more than 600 files containing visual depictions of children, some under the age of twelve, engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

This case was the product of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany M. Gunter prosecuted the case.

Patterson’s case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Patterson will serve his seven-year sentence at a federal prison facility. The public is advised to be cautious when sharing or accessing online content to avoid inadvertently downloading child pornography.
