Wooster Man Indicted for Making Threats Online
A disturbing trend has been exposed in the dark corners of the internet, where a 25-year-old Wooster man has been accused of making threats to kill and destroy government buildings. Christopher Smallwood, 25, has been indicted on one count of interstate transmission of a threat and one count of willfully making a threat.
According to the indictment, Smallwood made a series of reports to the online ATF tip website between September 1 and November 14, 2018, claiming that women associated with the adult website myfreecams.com had made the threats. The claims included declarations of allegiance to terrorist organizations and threats to use explosives and firearms.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Joyce handling the prosecution. If convicted, Smallwood’s sentence will be determined by the court, taking into account his prior criminal record, role in the offense, and other factors.
The indictment serves as a reminder that online threats are taken seriously by law enforcement and can have serious consequences. An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt, but it highlights the importance of protecting our communities from harm.
Smallwood’s case is a stark reminder that the internet can be a breeding ground for malicious behavior. Law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to root out these threats and bring perpetrators to justice.
As the investigation continues, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The safety and security of our communities depend on it.
