Christopher Smith, Heroin Distribution, Pennsylvania 2018

An Ohio man has been convicted of distributing heroin in Western Pennsylvania.

Christopher Smith, 21, of East Liverpool, Ohio, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin before United States District Judge David S. Cercone.

The court was advised that Smith conspired with others to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute kilogram quantities of heroin, which was supplied from Mexico to Ohio and then later to Aliquippa in the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Smith’s guilty plea is a result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Hopewell Township Police Department, Beaver County District Attorney’s Office, Aliquippa Police Department, and the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation revealed that Smith and his co-conspirators were responsible for distributing kilogram quantities of heroin, which poses a significant threat to public safety in Western Pennsylvania.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed on Smith will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history, if any.

Smith’s sentencing is scheduled for June 22, 2018. He faces a possible sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both.

Pending sentencing, the court continued Smith’s bond. Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
