Missoula, Montana – In a shocking turn of events, Nickolas William Povsha, 24, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for distributing methamphetamine and other illicit substances in the city of Missoula.
According to court records, Povsha pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The charges stem from a series of incidents that took place in 2018, during which Povsha sold MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, to a confidential informant on two separate occasions.
In July 2018, federal authorities executed a search warrant at Povsha’s residence and found multiple firearms, ammunition, drugs, a scale, and other incriminating evidence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tara Elliott prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Missoula High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations.
Chief U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the sentencing hearing, during which Povsha was handed down an eight-year prison sentence and five years of supervised release.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime.
Povsha’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the consequences of engaging in such activities.
As part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to target and prosecute individuals involved in violent crime.
