San Diego Man Indicted for Selling Ghost Guns, Possessing Homemade Machine Gun, and Distributing Fentanyl

February 18, 2022 – SAN DIEGO, CA – Gavin Michael Adcock, a 20-year-old San Diego resident, has been indicted for selling ghost guns, possessing a homemade machine gun, and distributing fentanyl.

According to federal authorities, Adcock was selling unfinished handgun lowers, also known as ‘80% lowers,’ on the mobile marketplace OfferUp. An undercover investigation by the San Diego Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) revealed that Adcock had sold eight firearms, ammunition, and 61 fentanyl pills to undercover agents between November 2021 and January 2022.

Of the eight firearms sold, seven were determined to be ‘privately manufactured firearms,’ also known as PMFs or ghost guns. One of the PMFs was found to be a machine gun, which Adcock claimed he had manufactured himself.

Adcock was arrested on February 17, 2022, and agents seized an additional firearm and suspected fentanyl pills during the arrest.

The indictment charges Adcock with dealing firearms without a license, possession of a machine gun, and distribution of fentanyl. If convicted, Adcock faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for dealing firearms without a license, ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine for possession of a machine gun, and twenty years in prison and a $1 million fine for distribution of fentanyl.

The case is a result of ongoing efforts by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, ATF, and the San Diego Police Department to investigate and prosecute the trafficking of firearms and the distribution of fentanyl.

The next court date is scheduled for February 24, 2022.
