A 48-year-old Nigerian man has admitted to re-entering the United States illegally, following a conviction for embezzlement in California in 2006.
Chukwudi Olisemeka was removed from the country on June 19, 2008, after being convicted of embezzlement in California in 2006.
However, on May 7, 2017, he was found by a Border Patrol agent in Massena, New York, on a bus headed to New York City.
A fingerprint check revealed that Olisemeka had previously been removed from the country, and he admitted to re-entering the United States without permission.
Olisemeka faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced by Senior United States Judge Frederick J. Scullin, Jr. on September 18, 2017.
This case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
Olisemeka, a citizen of Nigeria, was convicted of illegal re-entry into the United States, a felony offense.
The exact charges against Olisemeka are not specified in the DOJ press release.
