David Elmo Curry, Enticing Minors, Washington 2024

A 38-year-old man from Clarkston, Washington, has been sentenced to 156 months in federal prison for attempting to entice minors for sex.

David Elmo Curry was arrested in Yakima, Washington, after traveling from Kennewick to meet with two minor girls following a sting operation by the Washington State Patrol and the Yakima Police Department. Curry had responded to an online ad that was part of the sting, claiming he wanted to have sex with the girls, aged 11 and 13.

According to court documents, Curry had condoms and flavored lubricant with him at the time of his arrest. He was charged in Yakima County Superior Court with Attempted First Degree Attempted Rape of a Child and Second Degree Attempted Rape of a child, but was later released on bail.

However, after his release, Curry continued to pursue his twisted desires, engaging in online conversations with an undercover officer who was posing as a 13-year-old girl. Curry requested nude images and made arrangements to meet with the ‘girl’ in person, even going so far as to purchase flavored lubricant in a specific flavor.

Chief United States District Judge Stanley A. Bastian presided over Curry’s trial, which resulted in guilty verdicts on all counts. Curry was sentenced to 156 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

“Even while on release for related crimes, Mr. Curry attempted to find a young child to victimize,” stated U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref. “I am deeply grateful for the work of Homeland Security Investigations, our local partners, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, for effectively responding to technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and for protecting our children.”

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Washington State Patrol, the Yakima Police Department, and the Southeast Regional ICAC Task Force.
