Jeffrey Bernecki, Child Pornography, New York 2023

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Pittsford, New York, as 29-year-old Jeffrey Bernecki pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography depicting prepubescent minors. This is not Bernecki’s first run-in with the law regarding child pornography, as he was previously convicted in 2012 in the Western District of New York.

According to court documents, Bernecki was sentenced to a five-year prison term in 2012 for possessing and distributing child pornography. He was released from prison in 2016 and began a 15-year period of supervised release, which was administered by the United States Probation Department in Rochester. As part of his release conditions, Bernecki was subject to a search condition, which granted Probation Officers the authority to inspect his home and digital devices.

On December 8, 2017, during a routine inspection, Probation Officers discovered that Bernecki was in possession of an unauthorized smartphone. The phone was seized, and forensic examination by the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed approximately 200 images and 25 videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.

The plea is the result of an investigation by the United States Probation Department, under the direction of Chief Probation Officer Anthony SanGiacomo, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Buffalo Division, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Kevin P. Lyons.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Rossi stated that the case highlights the importance of continued vigilance in monitoring individuals with a history of child pornography offenses. Bernecki’s guilty plea serves as a stark reminder that those who engage in such heinous crimes will be held accountable.
