Clausen Burglary, Glendive MT, 1902

The night of January 18, 1902, will be remembered as one of the most brazen burglaries in Montana’s history. At Glendive’s Northern Pacific depot, thieves broke into the baggage room through a window, targeting the trunks of C.B. Clausen, a traveling salesman for S.S. Clausen Co., wholesale manufacturing jewelers from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Clausen’s arrival in Glendive the previous evening at 7 o’clock had seemingly gone unnoticed by the perpetrators.
