Clay County Man Charged for Unregistered Shotgun
A 30-year-old man from Orange Park, Florida, has been charged with unlawful possession of an unregistered National Firearms Act firearm, a shotgun made from another shotgun.
According to the indictment, Dylan Milton Jarvis fired multiple rounds into the ground from a 12-gauge shotgun before discarding the firearm in a parking lot along Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park on January 11, 2022. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives later found the shotgun and multiple spent shotgun shells in the area.
Further investigation revealed that Jarvis had previously sawed off the barrel and stock of the 12-gauge shotgun, rendering it unregistered under federal law. Jarvis was arrested on April 14, 2022, after being indicted on April 7, 2022.
The maximum penalty for the charge is 10 years in federal prison. The United States also intends to forfeit the unregistered shotgun.
An indictment is a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Jacksonville Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which aims to reduce violent crime through a comprehensive strategy of enforcement and prevention. The PSN program focuses on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
