WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A ruthless trio of methamphetamine traffickers faced the harsh reality of justice as they were sentenced to substantial federal prison terms for their illegal drug trade. Jackie Eugene Clayton, 38, Juan Carlos Lopez, 53, and Rudy Roman Ramirez, 45, were handed down sentences by U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor after pleading guilty in February 2017 to conspiracy to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney John Parker of the Northern District of Texas.
Clayton received the stiffest sentence of 235 months behind bars, while Lopez was sentenced to 100 months and Ramirez to 135 months. Their sentences were announced amidst revelations of their sordid involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The court documents detailed a complex web of distribution from December 2014 through December 3, 2015. Clayton, based in Dallas, Texas, was responsible for providing varied quantities of meth to Ramirez and Lopez. The transactions involved significant sums of money; the methamphetamine distributed by Clayton was worth several thousand dollars per ounce.
Documents also revealed that Ramirez obtained large quantities from co-conspirator Juan Leonardo Tello, who lived in Dallas. Ramirez’s role included personally picking up drugs and sending Lopez to transport them back to Wichita Falls for distribution. Cash payments and wire transfers totaling more than $75,000 were identified as drug proceeds.
This case was a result of a joint investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Wichita County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Walters led the prosecution team that sought justice for the community.
Co-defendant Juan Leonardo Tello is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26, 2017, adding further weight to the authorities’ efforts to dismantle this drug trafficking network.
