Clint Jackson Beck, Methamphetamine Possession with Intent to Distribute, Georgia 2016

Athens, Georgia, has seen its fair share of drug-related crimes, but the latest sentencing of Clint Jackson Beck, a 37-year-old resident of Arnoldsville, Georgia, is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the region. Beck was sentenced to serve more than 15 years (188 months) in Federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Court Judge C. Ashley Royal in Athens, Georgia, after Beck entered a plea of guilty to the charge on December 20, 2016. The facts admitted at his guilty plea showed that on March 21, 2016, he and co-defendant Dana Michelle Thomas were pursued and arrested after being observed by law enforcement officers conducting a hand-to-hand illegal drug sale in front of a residence in Athens, Georgia.

When stopped by a law enforcement officer, Beck pulled away from the officer and ran but was subsequently apprehended. A search of the vehicle revealed a glass smoking pipe and a small green spoon. Also found were a digital scale, several sandwich baggies containing what proved to be methamphetamine and a large quantity of small jeweler bags commonly used to package methamphetamine for sale. A search of Beck’s cell phone revealed extensive text messages detailing drug trafficking activities.

At the time of his arrest, Beck had two active arrest warrants: one Federal warrant from the U. S. Marshals and a felony probation warrant from Jackson County, Georgia. He also admitted that he has ten prior criminal convictions. This history of criminal activity, combined with the severity of the current offense, likely contributed to the significant sentence handed down by Judge Royal.

Beck’s co-defendant, Dana Michelle Thomas, also pled guilty and was sentenced by Judge Royal to serve 20 months’ imprisonment on January 18, 2017. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, and the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Peter D. Leary prosecuted the case for the United States.

The sentencing of Clint Jackson Beck serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region. The significant sentence handed down in this case demonstrates the seriousness with which these crimes are taken and the commitment to holding offenders accountable.
