Cocaine Trafficking Lands Scranton Man Behind Bars
SCRANTON – Jean Quinones, 26, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment for cocaine trafficking. On September 9, 2021, United States District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion handed down the sentence.
According to United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Quinones pleaded guilty to attempting to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. This crime was uncovered after Customs and Border Patrol Agents intercepted a package containing a kilogram of cocaine mailed from the Virgin Islands to Scranton, Pennsylvania. The package was picked up by Quinones at a post office in Scranton.
Homeland Security Agents and U.S. Postal Inspectors arrested Quinones shortly after he picked up the package. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the United States Customs and Border Patrol, and the Scranton Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara prosecuted the case. Quinones’ sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of cocaine trafficking in our community.
The intercepted package was a significant find, containing a kilogram of cocaine. This amount far exceeds the 500 grams threshold for which Quinones was charged.
Quinones’ sentence marks a major victory in the fight against cocaine trafficking in our region. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the sentencing.
