Codi Lee Douglas, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2021

Codi Lee Douglas, a 26-year-old Parkersburg man, has pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge in West Virginia. The charge stems from a traffic stop on January 27, 2021, where law enforcement officers found an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in his vehicle.

Douglas admitted to possessing the firearm, which is a crime due to his 2016 conviction for malicious assault in Wood County Circuit Court. The malicious assault conviction was the result of Douglas shooting another man in the face in September 2015.

Douglas is not legally permitted to possess firearms due to his prior conviction, which is a felony. This means he faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced on January 5, 2022.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Parkersburg Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives (ATF).

Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe is handling the prosecution.

The case is part of a broader effort to crack down on gun crimes in the state. Douglas’s guilty plea is a significant development in this effort and serves as a reminder of the consequences of possessing firearms while being a convicted felon.
