Cody Baade, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, South Dakota 2018

Two Sioux Falls men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy that brought over 30 kilograms of the deadly drug to the city.

Cody Baade, 25, was sentenced to 210 months in custody, plus a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, for his involvement in the conspiracy. Corey Roelfsema, 29, received a harsher sentence of 240 months in custody, plus a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The superseding indictment against the two men was issued by a federal grand jury on April 4, 2017. Baade pleaded guilty to the indictment on September 27, 2017, while Roelfsema was found guilty after a jury trial on October 4, 2017.

Starting in 2014, Baade, Roelfsema, and other conspirators were involved in bringing over 30 kilograms of methamphetamine to Sioux Falls. The conspiracy was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer D. Mammenga prosecuted the case, bringing the conspirators to justice and ensuring that they will spend many years behind bars.

The sentences handed down to Baade and Roelfsema are a testament to the seriousness with which the federal government views methamphetamine trafficking. The men’s actions put countless lives at risk, and their sentences serve as a warning to others who would engage in similar crimes.

Baade and Roelfsema will serve their sentences in federal prison, where they will have access to counseling and other programs designed to help them overcome their addiction to methamphetamine.
