The customer and his wife used the drugs shortly thereafter, resulting in both deaths due to overdoses. The Dittmars continued to sell heroin and fentanyl in the Cedar Rapids area until July 2024.

Alysha Dittmar previously pled guilty to distribution of heroin and fentanyl resulting in the two deaths. Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Dittmar faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment on each count and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, $2,000,000 in fines, and a lifetime of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Marion Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force consisting of the DEA, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Marion Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Nicole Nagin and Dan Chatham.
