Colin M. Skeele, Child Pornography, New Jersey 2023

A former teacher and summer camp employee has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for producing child pornography, a crime that shocked the community in New Jersey.

Colin M. Skeele, 33, of Florham Park, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to one count of producing child pornography in U.S. District Court in Newark.

According to court documents, Skeele, who worked as a counselor at a boys’ summer camp in Hardwick, New Jersey, and as a teacher at parochial schools in Boonton, New Jersey, and Stirling, New Jersey, became Facebook friends with a minor in 2011.

Skeele offered to pay the minor to take sexually explicit photographs, which were later sent to another minor who had attended the summer camp.

Between 2012 and 2014, Skeele communicated online with individuals in the Philippines to purchase live child sexual abuse shows, which he directed and viewed in real-time via an online video and chat service.

Skeele used an online fund transfer service to purchase live sexual abuse videos of young children, with one instance involving a payment of approximately $100.

U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito credited special agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with the investigation that led to Skeele’s sentencing.

Judge Susan D. Wigenton sentenced Skeele to 180 months in prison, followed by 20 years of supervised release. He must also register as a sex offender and cannot have contact with anyone under the age of 18.
