Colombian Hotelier Nabbed: Fueled Cartel Cocaine Pipeline

MIAMI, FL – Neder Valencia Julio, a Colombian entrepreneur, has been convicted by a federal jury in Miami for his central role in a years-long conspiracy to distribute thousands of kilograms of cocaine destined for the United States. The verdict, delivered in the Southern District of Florida, exposes a sophisticated operation fueled by the ruthless Clan del Golfo (CDG) cartel.

Evidence presented at trial revealed Valencia wasn’t just a businessman; he was a key logistical hub for the CDG. Valencia owned a network of businesses along the Colombian coast – a resort hotel, apartment complex, a boat transport operation, and a fleet of high-speed boats – all strategically positioned within CDG-controlled territory. The CDG, a powerful paramilitary group and drug trafficking organization, not only trafficked its own cocaine, pushing it through partners in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras before it reached Mexican cartels for final transport across the U.S. border, but also levied a “tax” on any other traffickers using its territory, providing storage, security, and inventory in exchange.

The case hinged on a 2018 bust. Colombian authorities tracked a speedboat originating from Valencia’s operation moving along a known drug corridor. Panamanian authorities intercepted the vessel, forcing the crew to dump 626 kilograms of cocaine into the sea before escaping. While the boat was seized, the SENAN patrol recovered a significant portion of the discarded cocaine. Crucially, investigators linked a branded stamp on those bricks directly to the CDG, and similar markings surfaced on cocaine seized in the US – in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Corpus Christi, Texas – between 2017 and 2020. But the 2018 shipment was just the tip of the iceberg.

Prosecutors demonstrated Valencia’s involvement stretched back to at least 2011, detailing multiple large-scale shipments. In 2012 and 2015, he coordinated 1200 and 1500-kilogram shipments to Honduras, respectively, providing the boats and crew for the CDG’s Honduran clients. In 2017, he oversaw a 1000-kilogram dispatch. February 2018 saw another 1400-kilogram run. Valencia wasn’t a distant manager; he was personally present to oversee the loading and dispatch of cocaine onto his speedboats. He continued orchestrating these operations through 2019 and 2020.

Valencia was arrested in Colombia in 2021 and extradited to the United States to face justice. U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and Special Agent in Charge Deanne Reuter led the investigation. U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal presided over the trial, which exposed the depth of Valencia’s criminal enterprise. Valencia now faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 23, 2025, allowing Judge Singhal to consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors before delivering his final judgment.

This conviction sends a clear message: those who facilitate the flow of deadly drugs into the United States, regardless of their location, will be held accountable. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. The CDG’s reach extends far beyond Colombia, and this case highlights the international cooperation needed to dismantle these criminal networks.
