Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, a 25-year-old Colombian national, has been charged with escaping from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. Mogollon, along with three others, was apprehended for breaking out of the Delaney Hall detention center, a private facility in Newark.
The group executed a daring escape by scaling an aluminum second-story wall, dropping mattresses to cushion their landing, and utilizing bed sheets to navigate over barbed wire fences. Mogollon was the last to be caught, on July 17, 2025, in Los Angeles, and appeared in court on August 18, 2025.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, Franklin Norberto Bautista Reyes, Joan Sebastian Castaneda Lozada, and Joel Enrrique Sandoval-Lopez were also charged with escape from custody. They were caught between June 15-16, 2025, in New Jersey.
Each defendant faces a maximum penalty of one year imprisonment and a $100,000 fine. The investigation was led by the FBI, ICE, and Homeland Security Investigations, with special agents and officers working tirelessly to track down the escaped detainees.
Mogollon’s attorney is Stephen Turano, Esq. The charges against Mogollon are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The government’s case is being represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Hardin of the Public Protection Task Force in Newark.
