Elkin Lara-Lozano, Burglary, Pennsylvania 2021

Burglary Suspect Caught Illegally Re-entering the U.S.

A 49-year-old Colombian national has been indicted for re-entering the United States, according to a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh. Elkin Lara-Lozano was arrested on September 11, 2021, by the Mount Lebanon Police Department in connection with a burglary of a nearby residence.

The indictment, which names Lara-Lozano as the sole defendant, alleges that he was removed from the country on several previous occasions. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than three years in prison, a fine, or a combination thereof, based on the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Brian W. Castello is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Elkin Lara-Lozano’s case will be heard in court, and he will have the opportunity to defend himself against the charges.

The U.S. government takes re-entry offenses seriously, and those who are found guilty can face significant penalties. The outcome of the case will depend on the evidence presented and the arguments made by both the prosecution and the defense.

The re-entry of a previously deported individual can have serious consequences, including fines, imprisonment, and deportation. In this case, Elkin Lara-Lozano’s past removal from the country and his alleged involvement in a burglary make his situation particularly serious.
