⏱ 2 min read

A 33-year-old Concord man, Casey Murphy, has been indicted for child exploitation and distribution of child sex abuse materials (CSAM) after he had a minor child send him CSAM and distributed it to others, including minors, in March 2025. The investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Concord Police Department found a significant amount of CSAM on his electronic devices when he was arrested in December. Murphy is currently detained in state custody on separate CSAM possession charges.

Murphy’s indictment includes one count of child exploitation and one count of distribution of child sex abuse materials. The charge of child exploitation carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum term of 30 years, while the charge of CSAM distribution carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years and a maximum term of 20 years.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen is prosecuting the case, which will be heard in federal court at a later date.

Murphy’s actions are a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of law enforcement efforts to protect children from abuse. The investigation and prosecution of such cases are crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of vulnerable populations.
