BOSTON – In a chilling turn of justice, Charles Fox, a 46-year-old resident of Greenfield, Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography. The news was announced by Acting United States Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell and Matthew B. Millhollin, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston.
Fox, who has been indicted since July 2019, faces a minimum sentence of 15 years to a maximum of 40 years in federal prison, along with the possibility of lifetime supervised release and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is set for March 22, 2022.
According to authorities, Fox used Facebook messenger to communicate with a minor in the Philippines, coercing them into engaging in sexually explicit conduct. He then received pornographic images in exchange for sending Western Union payments to the country. This disturbing case of exploitation follows Fox’s previous conviction for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age in 2010.
The charge of receipt of child pornography carries significant penalties due to Fox’s prior sex offense conviction. Sentences are determined by federal district court judges based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Prosecuting the case is Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant, who works out of Mendell’s Springfield Branch Office. The swift action taken against Fox serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat child pornography and protect vulnerable populations.
