A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy, David Anthony Rodriguez, was sentenced to 1 year in federal prison for submitting a false search warrant application to obtain cell phone information for a private client’s estranged husband in a contentious divorce case in Los Angeles, California. Rodriguez, 45, pleaded guilty to conspiracy against rights in July 2025 and left the LASD in October 2025. The false affidavit was submitted in August 2021, while Rodriguez was working as a private security guard for a wealthy client, receiving cash payments for his services.
Rodriguez’s private security work was done through a company owned by another former LASD colleague, Eric Chase Saavedra. The company provided security services for wealthy clients, often employing active LASD deputies and law enforcement officers. One of the clients was Adam Iza, a self-styled cryptocurrency businessman who has pleaded guilty to federal criminal charges and awaits sentencing.
Rodriguez developed a personal relationship with the client, identified as ‘Person 1’, who had an ongoing dispute with her husband. He received cash payments for working as a security guard for Person 1 at least twice a month. The false affidavit was used to obtain GPS tracking information for the husband’s cell phone, which was not related to any legitimate law enforcement purpose.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Percy Anderson. Rodriguez’s case highlights the risks of corruption and abuse of power within law enforcement agencies, particularly when officers engage in private security work on the side.
