Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang, 58, has been charged in federal court with acting as an illegal agent of the People’s Republic of China. The felony charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, stems from Wang’s alleged secret work on behalf of the Chinese government. Wang, who was elected to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022, is expected to plead guilty to the charge in the coming weeks. According to the DOJ, Wang secretly served the interests of the Chinese government, receiving and executing directives from PRC government officials.
