A federal judge in New Orleans has sentenced a 49-year-old man to 87 months in prison for his role in a cocaine distribution conspiracy.
Corey Dunn, 49, was sentenced by United States District Judge Susie Morgan on January 11, 2022, for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute cocaine base, a schedule II drug-controlled substance, during the commission of a drug trafficking crime, in violation of the Federal Controlled Substances Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
Dunn was charged on August 29, 2019, and pled guilty on June 15, 2021. He pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute cocaine base, a schedule II drug-controlled substance, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 846, 841(a)(1), and 841(b)(1)(B).
As part of his sentence, Dunn will also serve four years of supervised release and pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Brittany Reed, André Jones, and Melissa Bücher. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Gretna Police Department.
According to the indictment, Dunn was part of a larger conspiracy to distribute cocaine base in the New Orleans area.
The defendant’s sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
