Cory Ellis Easley, Firearms Offense, Alabama 2024

A convicted felon from Missouri has been handed a 10-year prison sentence for a firearms offense in Alabama.

Cory Ellis Easley, 40, of Fayette, Missouri, was sentenced to the statutory maximum for the offense by U.S. District Judge Kristi K. DuBose. The judge also ordered Easley to pay a $100 special assessment, undergo 3 years of supervised release, and pay restitution totaling $8,501.88.

The incident began on September 7, 2015, when Saraland police officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Chunchula, Alabama. While en route to the scene, an officer witnessed a truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle being driven recklessly. The officer followed the truck and saw a white male run from the vehicle and into a large garage. Several gunshots were fired from inside the garage, prompting the officer to take cover.

Backup officers arrived within a minute and took cover next to the first officer on the scene. They heard another shot being fired from the garage before hearing the sound of a tractor starting up. The tractor then burst through the door, and the suspect was seen driving away. A backup officer spotted a black gun in the suspect’s right hand as he drove away.

The suspect, later identified as Easley, drove the tractor into a wooded area and fired three more shots. Officers from the Saraland Police Department and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office searched for Easley and eventually found him hiding in a mud hole. A K9 unit was deployed to apprehend Easley, who was found with a loaded Glock 17 9mm semi-automatic pistol between his legs.

Easley caused extensive damage to various properties in the neighborhood during the incident. He is a convicted felon with numerous felony convictions for drug, theft, and assault offenses, making him prohibited from knowingly possessing a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Saraland Police Department, and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Sinan Kalayoglu prosecuted the case.
