Cosme Pimental-Armenta, Illegal Re-entry by Deported Alien, Mississippi 2017

Grimy Times: Gulfport, MS – In a stark reminder of the importance of border security, a Mexican national was sentenced to 21 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being convicted of rape.

Cosme Pimental-Armenta, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden to the maximum guideline sentence available for the crime of illegal re-entry by deported alien after a conviction for an aggravated felony.

According to the investigation, Pimental-Armenta was stopped by a Border Patrol agent in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on August 30, 2017, for careless driving. He initially identified himself as Danthony Martinez-Rivas using a Florida driver’s license, but was later found to be an illegal alien from Mexico.

Pimental-Armenta had earlier been removed from the United States on July 26, 2004, and had been previously convicted in Orange County, California, of forcible rape on April 5, 2002.

As part of his sentence, Pimental-Armenta was ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 and was placed on supervised release for three years. He was also warned that any return to the United States during this period would constitute a violation of his supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst praised the diligent work and cooperation exhibited by U.S. Border Patrol agents and the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team in bringing Pimental-Armenta to justice.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Golden.
