Counterfeit Kingpin Bites the Dust

Counterfeit Kingpin Bites the Dust

A Springfield man has been caught red-handed selling fake merchandise, and now he’s facing the music. Josue Rivera, 38, has agreed to plead guilty to trafficking in counterfeit goods.

According to court documents, Rivera operated a retail merchandise business called Main Source in Springfield, where he stocked and sold counterfeit merchandise, including clothing, footwear, and accessories that bore brand names like Gucci, Nike, Coach, Chanel, and Oakely. He also sold unauthorized reproductions of digital video discs of movies and compact discs of music.

Rivera’s counterfeit operation was a lucrative one, with sales estimated to be around $29,000. However, the real kicker is that he’s agreed to forfeit two bank accounts worth approximately $79,000. That’s a hefty fine, even for a counterfeit kingpin.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Bruce Foucart, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations, and Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchett made the announcement, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow.

The case against Rivera is a major blow to the counterfeit trade in Western Massachusetts. It’s a reminder that selling fake merchandise is not only illegal but also has serious consequences.

Rivera’s plea deal is a significant victory for law enforcement and a warning to those who would seek to profit from counterfeit goods. His case serves as a reminder that counterfeiters will not be tolerated in our community.

In a statement, United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz said, ‘The sale of counterfeit goods not only harms legitimate businesses but also poses a significant threat to public health and safety.’
