Greenville, SC – In a shocking turn of events, a local couple has been brought to justice for their involvement in crack cocaine trafficking. Norman W. Jefferson, 51, and Roshaundra A. Griffin, 46, both of Greenville and Anderson respectively, were sentenced in federal court in Greenville for their crimes.
According to court documents, Jefferson and Griffin conducted multiple sales of crack cocaine from their residence in January and February 2016. The evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that the couple used their home as a hub for their illicit activities, with drug paraphernalia scattered throughout the house.
In a bold move, the Greenville Police Department obtained a search warrant and executed it in March 2016. During the search, officers found Jefferson in possession of a loaded Ruger .380 caliber pistol, while both individuals were in close proximity to crack cocaine. The discovery was a major breakthrough in the case.
United States Attorney Beth Drake commended the hard work and dedication of the ATF and Greenville Police Department agents who investigated the case. ‘The collaboration and commitment of these law enforcement agencies have brought justice to the community,’ she said.
Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Lea Schoen of the Greenville office prosecuted the case. In a statement, Schoen praised the bravery of the agents who put their lives on the line to bring the couple to justice.
In a surprising twist, United States District Judge Bruce H. Hendricks of Charleston sentenced Jefferson to just one day in imprisonment for the drug conspiracy charge, as well as 60 months for possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. Griffin, on the other hand, was sentenced to five years’ probation on the same charge. The sentences have left many in the community stunned and wondering about the leniency shown to the couple.
