Jackson Man Pleads Guilty to Being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm

A Jackson man has admitted to breaking federal law by possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony. U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Kurt Thielhorn announced the guilty plea of Courtney Lamar Forbes, 33, in a federal court. Forbes was found with a firearm on March 18, 2022, by a Jackson Police Officer.

Courtney Lamar Forbes, a convicted felon, was not supposed to possess any firearm. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from owning or possessing firearms. Forbes’s possession of the firearm is a serious crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case against Forbes was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jackson Police Department. The evidence gathered by these agencies led to Forbes’s indictment by a federal grand jury on July 6, 2022. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12, 2023.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jessica S. Terrill. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities. The PSN program brings together law enforcement and community organizations to make neighborhoods safer.
