ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – In a shocking turn of events, Courtney Marie Zirkle, a 37-year-old Elkins resident, was handed a 41-month prison sentence for methamphetamine distribution.
According to sources, Zirkle was found guilty of one count of "Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine" and one count of "Unlawful Possession of a Firearm" in August 2020.
The charges stem from an incident in January 2019, when Zirkle was found to be in possession of methamphetamine in Randolph County, West Virginia. Furthermore, authorities discovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol in her possession, despite being prohibited from having a firearm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner led the prosecution on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Mountain Region Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force conducting the investigation.
U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, handing down the 41-month sentence to Zirkle. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine distribution and the consequences of breaking the law.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit trade of controlled substances. As the nation grapples with the opioid epidemic, cases like Zirkle’s underscore the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between local, state, and federal authorities.
Zirkle’s case serves as a warning to those involved in illicit activities: the consequences of getting caught are severe and can have a lasting impact on one’s life.
