Craig M. Mulvey, Child Pornography Charges, Rhode Island 2024

Craig M. Mulvey, a 39-year-old resident of Newport, Rhode Island, is facing serious allegations after being detained on federal child pornography charges. According to a recent investigation, Mulvey was arrested in the morning hours after a court-authorized search of his residence yielded numerous images and videos containing child pornography.

The images and videos were allegedly discovered on a laptop belonging to Mulvey. Additionally, investigators found two pairs of soiled little girl’s underwear and a thumb drive in a segregated compartment in a nightstand located in Mulvey’s bedroom.

According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in Providence received information in February 2020 that an image of child pornography had been uploaded to a social media platform from an Internet address later determined to belong to Mulvey’s residence. In October, HSI determined that a login used to access and upload the image of child pornography to the social media platform allegedly belonged to Mulvey.

Mulvey appeared before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond and was ordered detained on a criminal complaint charging him with distribution of child pornography and possessing and accessing child pornography. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John P. McAdams.

A federal criminal complaint is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between HSI, the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Newport Police. The case highlights the importance of interagency cooperation in combating child exploitation.

The charges against Mulvey are serious, and if convicted, he could face significant penalties. The community is left to wonder how such allegations can occur, and what steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
