A Shiprock man has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for a serious crime. Crandall Craig Martin, 42, was sentenced for unlawfully possessing a loaded shotgun, which he obtained by stealing and attempting to sell it.
As reported by court records, on August 10, 2022, Martin stole a loaded firearm with the intention of trading it for alcohol or money to buy alcohol. Martin was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition as a previously convicted felon and misdemeanant convicted of a crime of domestic violence.
Martin’s crime is a serious one, and his sentence reflects the severity of his actions. The fact that he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his past convictions does not excuse his behavior.
Martin pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Upon his release from prison, he will be subject to three years of supervised release. This is a significant consequence for Martin, and one that should serve as a warning to others who would engage in similar behavior.
The investigation into Martin’s crime was led by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones is prosecuting the case.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
The sentencing of Crandall Craig Martin is a significant step in holding him accountable for his actions. His crime was serious, and his sentence is a reflection of the severity of his behavior.
