Honduran National Charged with Gun Violations

Elmer Javier Acosta-Mejia, a 27-year-old citizen of Honduras, is facing federal charges for violating the Federal Gun Control Act in Louisiana.

According to a two-count indictment, Acosta-Mejia, who is an alien illegally present in the United States, possessed two firearms. He is prohibited from possessing any firearm because he is an alien illegally in the United States.

Under the indictment, Acosta-Mejia faces a maximum term of imprisonment of not more than ten years, a fine of $250,000.00, and a mandatory special assessment of $100.00. He is also subject to a period of supervised release after imprisonment of up to three years.
