Newark, N.J. – Union County resident Joseph Hinksmon, 42, of Cranford, was today sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for his despicable act of downloading child pornography, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig.
Hinksmon, who pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi, accessed the internet from July 10 to July 24, 2019, to download and store over 600 images of child sexual abuse on his personal hard drive. The court documents reveal that the downloaded materials included explicit content involving prepubescent children.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, Judge Cecchi imposed a further 10 years of supervised release on Hinksmon and ordered him to pay $75,000 in restitution. This comes as a stark reminder of the serious consequences for those who engage in such heinous acts.
Special agents of the FBI, directed by Special Agent in Charge George M. Crouch Jr., were credited with leading the investigation that led to Hinksmon’s sentencing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office Violent Crimes Unit in Newark is represented by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey E. Zyriek Enriquez.
Hinksmon’s case serves as a chilling example of the lengths law enforcement will go to protect our children from predators like him. It underscores the ongoing efforts to combat the growing epidemic of child exploitation online and emphasizes the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.
