A Cresco man has pleaded guilty in federal court for unlawfully possessing a shotgun and rifle following an incident where he fired the shotgun out of a car window in Calmar, Iowa.
Daniel Wildman, 24, from Cresco, was convicted on September 25, 2013, of being a felon and an unlawful user of marijuana in possession of firearms. Wildman admitted to driving from Ossian to Calmar in the early morning hours of October 12, 2012, with intent to confront two individuals over a money dispute.
At the scene, Wildman aimed his shotgun out the driver’s side window, firing several shots that struck a nearby house. No injuries were reported. He fled the scene and was later apprehended in a cornfield near Ossian, where police discovered the firearms used in the incident.
Wildman faces a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and three years of supervised release. Sentencing will be determined following a presentence report.
