BOSTON – A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in East Boston, where authorities have arrested 23-year-old Cristopher Vladimir Pineda Martinez for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.
According to court documents, Cristopher Vladimir Pineda Martinez distributed six videos depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on an online chat platform on December 12, 2022. An investigation led by law enforcement revealed that these videos were part of a larger collection of 54 CSAM videos found on Pineda Martinez’s personal cell phone.
The charges against Cristopher Vladimir Pineda Martinez include one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography. These charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a mandatory minimum of five years, and up to a lifetime of supervised release, along with a fine of up to $250,000.
Pineda Martinez made his initial appearance in federal court in Boston yesterday, where he was detained pending a hearing scheduled for February 3, 2023. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan C. Cleary of U.S. Attorney Rachael S. Rollins’ Major Crimes Unit.
The investigation was led by the United States Postal Inspection Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, with valuable assistance from Homeland Security Investigations in New England.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations, and Cristopher Vladimir Pineda Martinez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
