David St. Jacques, Child Pornography Possession, Massachusetts 2023

David St. Jacques, 57, of Wareham, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography — a grim repeat offender facing justice for crimes against children. The sentence, handed down yesterday in Boston’s federal court, includes an additional five years of supervised release, marking the latest chapter in a long trail of exploitation.

U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris imposed the sentence after St. Jacques pleaded guilty on April 15, 2021, to one count of possession of child pornography. The conviction followed a targeted search of his residence in September 2020, during which federal agents seized a computer, three cell phones, and a thumb drive — all packed with illegal, exploitative material.

But St. Jacques didn’t wait quietly for the knock on the door. As agents executed the search warrant, he attempted to destroy evidence — smashing two hard drives and trying to damage one of his phones. Digital forensics specialists recovered enough data to confirm the presence of child pornography and traced his activity across multiple chatting platforms where he exchanged illicit images with others.

This isn’t St. Jacques’s first time behind bars for these crimes. In March 2009, he was convicted in Plymouth County Superior Court on multiple counts of dissemination and possession of child pornography — a past that underscores a pattern of predatory behavior that continued despite prior punishment.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Paruti, Chief of Acting U.S. Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell’s Major Crimes Unit, with support from Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division. The announcement reflects a coordinated push to hold repeat offenders accountable and protect vulnerable victims.

The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation. Tasked with marshaling federal, state, and local resources, the program targets those who produce, distribute, or possess child sexual abuse material.
