Crystal Dawn Roth, 39, of Walkersville, West Virginia, was sentenced today to 100 months of incarceration for the charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced.
Roth, who is prohibited from having firearms due to prior convictions, admitted to possessing a revolver in March 2021 in Braxton County.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and was also ordered to pay a $20,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Braxton County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
Roth’s sentence is a result of her own admission of guilt and the evidence presented by the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Braxton County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a strong case against Roth.
This case serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm while prohibited is a serious offense with severe consequences. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those who break the law are held accountable.
The defendant’s sentence is as follows: 100 months of incarceration and a $20,000 fine. This is a serious outcome for someone who chose to ignore the law and put themselves and others at risk.
