Cunningham Pleads Guilty to Meth Distribution in Marshall County

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – In a grim admission of guilt, Luke Colton Cunningham, 27, from Cameron, West Virginia, has been caught with his hand in the methamphetamine pie. The United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II confirmed that Cunningham pleaded guilty today to one count of ‘Distribution of Methamphetamine’.

The admitted drug dealer, who turned 27 this year, faced the music for selling meth in Marshall County back in March 2021. If he’s found guilty on all counts, Cunningham is looking at a heavy penalty: up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine that could soar past $1,000,000.

While the severity of his sentence will be dictated by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account the gravity of his offenses and any prior criminal record he may have, Cunningham’s future is now very much in doubt. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton J. Reid is leading the charge against him on behalf of the government.

But this case was no one-man show. The Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, joined forces with local law enforcement to bring Cunningham down. The West Virginia State Police, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cameron Police Department all played pivotal roles in the investigation that led to Cunningham’s arrest.

U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone was at the helm during the proceedings. As the gritty details of Cunningham’s criminal activities were laid out before him, the judge’s role was clear: to ensure justice is served.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless fight against drug trafficking in West Virginia. Cunningham’s plea and pending sentence underscore the government’s commitment to eradicating illegal drug activity across the state.
