Aaron Joseph Cunningham, Firearms Threats, Washington 2023

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Joseph Cunningham, 47, of Cusick, Washington, has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison after being caught with illegal firearms and making death threats against a family.

Cunningham, who was also convicted on October 19, 2023, faces additional federal supervision for three years post-prison release. This sentence comes following his arrest on October 24, 2021, when he was found in possession of two loaded Glock firearms while driving his deceased brother’s car.

During the investigation, it was uncovered that Cunningham had previously threatened a family living on his late brother’s property. On October 18, 2021, he returned armed with two Glock-style firearms and accused them of being squatters. His parting words were chilling: “I will kill you all.”

United States Attorney Vanessa Waldref emphasized the severity of Cunningham’s crime, stating, “Mr. Cunningham illegally possessed loaded firearms and used them to threaten a family on their property. This is not just a threat to safety but to one’s freedom to live without fear.” ATF Seattle Field Division Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Blais echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the sentence serves as a deterrent against similar criminal activities.

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorney David Herzog.
