A disturbing crime has shaken a small community in South Dakota. Dace Lunderman, a 32-year-old Parmelee resident, has been indicted on serious charges of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
According to the indictment, the crimes were committed on January 6, 2017. Lunderman allegedly assaulted two individuals with a knife, with the intent to cause bodily harm. One of the victims suffered serious bodily injury as a result of the assault.
The maximum penalty upon conviction for each charge is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $200 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case, which is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Lunderman was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
It is essential to note that the charge is merely an accusation, and Lunderman is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
