Dagoberto Leroy Turnbull, Methamphetamine Distribution, Idaho 2021

A federal judge in Idaho has handed down a significant sentence to a Caldwell man accused of distributing methamphetamine.

Dagoberto Leroy Turnbull, 32, of Caldwell, was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for distribution of methamphetamine, according to a recent announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Turnbull’s sentence stems from two separate incidents where he sold methamphetamine to another individual. The first sale occurred on December 22, 2020, when Turnbull sold one quarter pound of methamphetamine. The second sale took place on January 12, 2021, when he sold an additional quarter pound of the illicit substance.

Turnbull was arrested on February 22, 2021, after authorities found him in possession of a half-ounce of methamphetamine and over $3,300 in cash.

Turnbull’s lengthy and violent criminal history includes convictions for grand theft and battery.

Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye also ordered Turnbull to serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The investigation into Turnbull was a cooperative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Nampa Police Department, and the Meridian Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney hired by the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with funds provided by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program.

The HIDTA program is part of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) created by Congress with the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. It provides assistance to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States.

Idaho is part of the Oregon-Idaho HIDTA, which is a collaboration of local, multi-jurisdictional law enforcement drug task forces, and prosecuting agencies dedicated to addressing regional drug trafficking organizations that operate in Ada, Canyon, Bannock, Kootenai, and Malheur Counties.
