Damarcus Laron Liddell, 29, Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison for Making False Statements to SSA
DAVENPORT, IA – In a shocking case of deception, Damarcus Laron Liddell, 29, of Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for making false statements to the Social Security Administration (SSA).
According to court documents, Liddell applied for disability benefits and was sent to be evaluated by two doctors. However, during the doctor appointments, Liddell exhibited outrageous behavior suggesting he was unable to understand simple commands and was non-verbal. Agents uncovered documents to support the position that Liddell was feigning a mental illness and had falsely represented to the doctors his physical and mental condition.
Additionally, when filling out the SSA forms, Liddell falsely stated he did not have any specialized training, omitting the fact he attended LA James School of Cosmetology.
Liddell pleaded guilty to failure to disclose information and making false statements to the SSA on June 27, 2016. The Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General investigated the case, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted it.
As part of his sentence, Liddell was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term and pay $200 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
