DAMIEN JAMES McDONALD, Serial Armed Bank Robber, Minnesota 2018

Grimy Times has learned that DAMIEN JAMES McDONALD, 41, was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for two counts of armed bank robbery in Minnesota.

McDONALD, a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright after pleading guilty on March 8, 2019.

According to court documents, McDONALD committed two brazen armed robberies in April and June 2018. On April 14, 2018, he robbed a U.S. Bank branch in Minnesota, brandishing a firearm and demanding that tellers fill a plastic bag with money. He repeated this horrific crime on June 6, 2018, at a credit union in Eagan, Minnesota, leaving with thousands of dollars in cash.

Surveillance video captured McDONALD’s getaway in a Mazda CX-7 SUV, which was later recovered by law enforcement. A search of McDONALD’s residence uncovered clothing and sneakers matching those worn by the robber, a bandana used to conceal his face, and thousands of dollars in cash.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including its Cellular Analysis Survey Team and Computer Analysis Response Team, the Eagan Police Department, and the Roseville Police Department.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota prosecuted the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Benjamin Bejar and Thomas Calhoun-Lopez leading the effort.

McDONALD’s sentence includes 110 months in prison, 5 years of supervised release, and $12,261 in restitution. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
