MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis man has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald.
Percy Lee Strother Jr., 47, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison if convicted of the charges. The indictment alleges that Strother was found in possession of a Beretta, Model 92F, 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol and a Jennings, Model Bryco 59, .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol on October 12, 2018, and January 5, 2019, respectively.
Strother has prior felony convictions in Hennepin and Dakota Counties, making him prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms at any time. The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Minneapolis Police Department, and the Plymouth Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat violent crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley M. Endicott is prosecuting the case.
The charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and Strother is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. His initial appearance in U.S. District Court has not yet been scheduled.
Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide commitment to reducing violent crime. The initiative is led by the Department of Justice with the assistance of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
