WASHINGTON – A jury has delivered a guilty verdict against Damion Brown, 33, of Washington, D.C., who was accused of sexually abusing his 13-year-old girlfriend’s daughter in February 2023.
Brown faces a maximum sentence of 36 years in prison for the crimes, which include first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree child sexual abuse.
The verdict was returned on May 7, 2024, following a trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The Honorable Anthony Epstein scheduled sentencing for July 12, 2024.
According to the government’s evidence, on February 24, 2023, the 13-year-old victim was home alone with the defendant, who was the victim’s mother’s live-in boyfriend. While the victim was changing clothes, the defendant came into her room and began hugging and kissing her and pushed her onto her bed.
The defendant performed a number of sexual acts on the child, then left the room laughing. The victim immediately left the apartment and reported to her aunt, who called the police. The defendant was still in the apartment when police arrived.
Subsequent DNA testing determined that the defendant could not be excluded from the positive results of DNA found on the victim after the abuse.
This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Folse and Robert Platt.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves commended the bravery of the victim and praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors who brought this case to justice.
