Daniel A. Baker, Inciting Violence, Florida 2021

Tallahassee, Florida – In a disturbing case of inciting violence, Daniel A. Baker, a 34-year-old resident of Tallahassee, has been indicted for threatening violence against protesters at the Florida Capitol Building.

According to the indictment, Baker issued a ‘Call to Arms’ on social media, calling for like-minded individuals to violently confront protesters gathered at the Florida Capitol in the wake of the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. He specifically called for others to join him in encircling any protesters and confining them at the state Capitol complex using firearms.

The indictment alleges that Baker sought to physically stop the expression of political views different than his own, potentially through armed violence. The FBI arrested Baker on January 15 and he was ordered detained pending trial to ensure the safety of the community.

At a time of widespread alarm and turmoil in our nation, Baker’s actions posed a significant threat to public order, said U.S. Attorney Lawrence Keefe. The indictment alleges that Baker sought to physically stop the expression of political views different than his own, potentially through armed violence.

The FBI is committed to identifying, investigating, and disrupting individuals who are intent on inciting violence or engaging in criminal activity, said Rachel L. Rojas, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division.

Baker’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 22, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. EST, at the U.S. Courthouse in Tallahassee before Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick.

This indictment is the result of a collaborative investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tallahassee Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Stephen Kunz and Lazaro Fields are prosecuting this case.

Baker’s case highlights the importance of protecting public safety, particularly in times of heightened tension and unrest.
