A 25-year-old man from Lower Brule, South Dakota, has been sentenced for his involvement in a disturbing case of sexual abuse of a minor.
According to a recent investigation, Daniel Berry, a resident of Lower Brule, South Dakota, was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. The incident took place between January 1, 2012, and January 31, 2012, at Berry’s home during a party.
The victim, an underage female, was subjected to sexual intercourse by Berry, who was then 25 years old.
Berry was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 15, 2014, and subsequently pleaded guilty on September 11, 2014.
On November 17, 2014, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down a 22-month prison sentence to Berry. Additionally, he was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Berry was also required to register as a sex offender as a result of his conviction.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges leading the prosecution.
Berry was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following the sentencing.
